Who runs RestorationIndex?

RestorationIndex is compiled and maintained by The RestorationIndex Desk, an independent editorial team based in Toronto. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any restoration company, and no business can pay for a better position. The team builds the dataset from public Google Maps records, applies the ranking formula published on our methodology page, and reviews every dataset and price guide before it goes live.

What does RestorationIndex do?

RestorationIndex does one thing: it keeps a list of the restoration firms working the Greater Toronto Area and puts them in an order that comes from the published RestorationIndex Score rather than from ad spend. It sells no placement. Its one form is a quote request, which the Desk reads and passes to one of the highest-scoring companies listed in the homeowner's area. There are 294 firms in it across 4 service categories, from water damage and flooded basements to mould, fire and sewage cleanup.

How does RestorationIndex make money without selling rankings?

RestorationIndex is free for homeowners and free for contractors. Today the directory earns nothing; if it ever does, revenue will come from clearly labelled promotion, kept separate from the rankings on purpose. No company can buy a higher rank, ever. Keeping money and rankings apart is the whole point, because a directory you cannot trust is worthless.

What are RestorationIndex's editorial standards?

RestorationIndex follows four rules on every page. Rankings are never for sale, review data comes only from public Google Maps profiles, market pricing is always attributed to a named source, and any homeowner or business owner can request a correction. Those standards are what let us claim these 294 listings are ranked on merit.

• No pay-to-rank

  Position comes from one published formula and nothing else. There is no paid tier to keep separate from it, because no part of this site is for sale.

• Google review data

  Every star and every review count was read off a public Google Maps record. The Desk writes none of them, buys none of them and edits none of them, including the unflattering ones.

• Named pricing sources

  Every dollar figure names the Canadian supplier, contractor or authority it was read from, so you can go and check it rather than take our word for it.

• Open corrections

  Spot something wrong? Write to hello@restorationindex.ca and we fix it or take the listing out. We do not promise a turnaround time we cannot guarantee, but every message is read.

What is in the RestorationIndex dataset?

The July 2026 dataset holds 294 GTA restoration firms. It labels each one with up to 6 kinds of work and pins each to one of 45 places. The site publishes 4 category hubs and 23 area pages from that: sewage cleanup and basement flooding sit under water damage because every company doing them is already there, and a place needs at least 4 companies before it gets a page of its own. Across it the mean Google rating runs 4.8 stars across 238 rated companies, with a median of 25 reviews per business, and 67.6% of them hold a rating of 4.8 stars or higher. We place each company at the Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA city nearest the map pin on its Google listing, so you can start with the ones closest to you. We do not know any company's real service area and do not claim to: most restoration firms here travel across the whole GTA, so ask when you call.
