What information does RestorationIndex collect?

Nothing you type on the site, because there is nowhere to type it. RestorationIndex carries no contact form, no quote request, no account and no newsletter signup. Two things do reach us. First, what any web server records: an IP address, a browser string and the page requested, kept in standard logs to keep the site up and to stop abuse. Second, if you write to hello@restorationindex.ca, we hold that message and the address it came from, for as long as it takes to deal with it. What the analytics tag records is set out in its own section below.

How does RestorationIndex use your information?

Server logs are used for security, for troubleshooting and for nothing else. What the analytics tag records is used to count readers and to see which pages get read, never to work out who a reader is. A message you send us is used to answer it and to fix whatever it reports. That is the whole list of purposes. None of it is joined together, none of it is sold, none of it builds a profile of you, and none of it is used for advertising, because RestorationIndex runs no advertising.

What does RestorationIndex pass to the companies it lists?

Only what you send through the quote form, and only after you tick the box that says so. If you fill that form in, we pass your name, contact details and your description of the damage to one restoration company listed in your area, so they can quote the work. One company, never a list, and never a pool of firms bidding against each other for you. If you do not tick that box the form does not send, and if you change your mind afterwards write to us and we will delete what you sent.

Nothing else about you goes anywhere. Browsing this site sends nobody anything. RestorationIndex sells no leads and no company can buy a better position: the order on every list comes from a published formula. When you call a company from a profile here, that call goes straight to the company. We do not see it, do not route it and are not told it happened.

Does RestorationIndex use cookies or analytics?

Yes, one: Google Analytics 4, added on August 19, 2026. It counts visits, which pages get read and roughly where in the world the reader is, so we can tell which parts of the index are worth the work. It sets two cookies in your browser, named _ga and _ga_1E55TZ6S54, and Google states both last about two years. Nothing here asks for your name, so there is no account to attach that to and we do not try to work out who you are.

You can refuse it. Blocking cookies for this site in your browser settings stops it, and Google publishes an opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that turns it off everywhere. Beyond Google Analytics there are still no advertising pixels and no cross-site trackers here.

An earlier version of this page said the site set no cookies and ran no analytics, and promised the policy would be updated before that changed. The tag shipped first and this page followed it, which is the wrong way round. The promise is not repeated here, because it was not kept.

Who else sees any of this?

Three companies, and they are worth naming rather than calling them service providers.

Vercel hosts the site. It serves every page and it writes the server logs described above. Vercel is a United States company running a worldwide network, so a page can be served, and its log line written, in Canada or outside it.

Googleruns the analytics. The counts described above are held in Google's systems, on servers outside Canada, including the United States.

Forward Email handles mail for this domain. Anything you send to hello@restorationindex.capasses through it on the way to the desk that reads it, and the mailbox it lands in is hosted by Google, so a message you send here sits on Google's servers as well.

Nobody else. There is no advertising network here, no lead buyer, no customer database and no mailing list tool, and no company listed on this site is sent anything about you. Information held outside Canada is subject to the law of the country it sits in and can be reached by the courts and authorities there, which is the trade-off of using any of the three.

How does RestorationIndex handle business listing data?

Our directory lists businesses using public information, such as company names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings and reviews sourced from Google Maps and business websites. This is public business data, not private personal data. If you own a listed business and want your listing corrected or removed, write to hello@restorationindex.ca with your business name and what you want changed. Removal and correction requests are read and acted on. We do not promise a fixed turnaround, because a small desk cannot guarantee one.

What are your privacy rights under PIPEDA?

Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information RestorationIndex holds about you, request a copy, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to our use of it. In practice the answer to the first question is a server log entry, a Google Analytics record tied to a cookie rather than to you, and any message you have sent us. To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@restorationindex.ca. PIPEDA gives us 30 days to answer and we aim to be well inside that.

How does RestorationIndex comply with CASL?

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) governs commercial email. RestorationIndex sends no commercial email: no marketing, no newsletters, no promotional messages and no mailing list to be added to. The only mail that leaves here is a reply to a message somebody sent us first. If an opt-in list is ever introduced, it will carry an unsubscribe link in every message, as CASL requires.

How does RestorationIndex store and retain your data?

Server logs sit with the host and are cycled on the host's own schedule. We keep no copy of them. The analytics records stay inside Google, under the retention period set on this site's Google Analytics property, and nothing is exported out of it to be held here. The two cookies sit in your browser for about two years unless you clear them, and clearing cookies for this site removes them at any time. A message you send us is kept for as long as it takes to deal with it, and after that it stays in the mailbox it arrived in.

We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to what we hold, though no transmission over the internet is perfectly secure.
