Will home insurance cover mold remediation in Ontario?: Only if the mold came from a sudden, accidental insured event: a burst pipe, or flooding covered by optional sewer-backup or overland-water endorsements. Mold from chronic seepage or a long-ignored leak is denied. Many Ontario policies also cap mould remediation with sub-limits of $10,000–$25,000, so you pay anything above that plus your deductible.

Why do mold removal quotes in Toronto vary so much?: The industry is unregulated in Ontario, so scope and standards differ between firms: one quotes a $1,500 surface treatment while another quotes a $7,500 full containment protocol for the same basement. Access, finished surfaces, containment level, testing and rebuild drive the spread. Get 2–3 quotes from IICRC-certified firms and compare line items, not totals.
